Yonda Terms of Service

Effective date: July 13, 2026

These Terms govern your use of Yonda ("Yonda: Read Real Japanese"), operated by Jeremy Irons (sole developer, "we"/"us"). By using the app, you agree to these Terms.

1. The service

Yonda lets you scan pages of real Japanese text (manga and other material), reads and translates that text using AI, and helps you build vocabulary and kanji knowledge over time. Some features are only available with a paid subscription or purchase.

2. Your account

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account.
You can delete your account at any time in-app (Profile → Delete Account) or by emailing support@irons.la. See our Account Deletion page.

3. Your content and scans

You own the photos you scan and any notes you add. By uploading a scan, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display it back to you (and, where the AI features are used, to send it to Anthropic for processing) solely to provide the app's functionality.
You're responsible for having the right to scan and use the material you upload. Yonda is intended for personal study use — scanning pages from manga or books you own or have lawful access to, for your own learning. Don't use Yonda to reproduce, redistribute, or infringe on copyrighted material you don't have rights to.
We don't claim ownership of your scans, and we don't use them to train AI models.

4. Subscriptions and purchases

Yonda offers auto-renewing subscriptions (monthly and annual) and a one-time lifetime purchase, processed through Apple's In-App Purchase system.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel your subscription in your device's App Store account settings.
Free trials, when offered, convert to a paid subscription automatically at the end of the trial period unless cancelled first.
Paid tiers include a monthly allotment of scans plus full access to the curriculum and AI chat features, as described in the app and on the App Store listing at the time of purchase.
Refunds are handled by Apple under their standard App Store refund policies — we don't process refunds directly.

5. Acceptable use

Don't use Yonda to: violate any law or third party's rights (including copyright); upload content that is illegal, abusive, or harmful; attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse the app's AI or backend systems; or interfere with the service for other users.

6. AI features

Yonda's scanning, translation, and chat features are powered by AI (Anthropic's Claude models) and, like any AI system, can make mistakes — a translation or explanation may occasionally be inaccurate or incomplete. Use your judgment, especially for anything beyond casual study.

7. Availability and changes

We may update, change, or discontinue features of the app over time, and may need to take the service down temporarily for maintenance. We'll try to give notice of material changes where practical.

8. Disclaimers and liability

Yonda is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can't be limited under applicable law.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where local consumer-protection law provides otherwise.

10. Changes to these Terms

If we change these Terms, we'll update the effective date above. Material changes will be surfaced in the app before they take effect.
